Introduction

One issue for the scanning of historical slides is the large variation in the size of slides used. Some collections have sections on the modern slide size which is easily accommodated by all commercial slide scanners. In addition, the coverslips and mountain employed provide additional variation in the overall slide thickness that can affect ability of the slides to be scanned. Coverslip thickness can vary between 0.085 to 0.35 mm.
